Wine Tasting hosted by Trinidad Villegas from LAN

Founded in 1972, Bodegas LAN was named after the initials of the 3 provinces in the Rioja Designation of Origin: Logrono (La Rioja), Alava and Navarra. Bodegas LAN has a privileged 70 hectare estate on the banks of the Ebro River called Vina Lanciano, growing 60 hectares of the Tempranillo, and 10 hectares of the Mazuelo grape variety.  LAN prides itself in achieving an optimal mix of artisanal methods and advanced technology to achieve its award-winning wines. To achieve the characteristic plenitude, roundness and sharpness of the LAN wines, American, Allier French and central European oak casks are used in the wine-ageing process.

Public Tasting Of London’s Best Inexpensive Wine List And Tutored Wine Tasting Dinner (1 April 2009) March 18, 2009

Babur, London’s best inexpensive restaurant (according to Harden’s 2009), is hosting a free tasting of its entire wine list for restaurant customers on 1 April, no fooling.

Following on from the free tasting of the restaurant’s wine list, Peter McCombie, MW, who devised Babur’s list, will lead a tutored Wine Tasting Dinner and talk about matching wines to Indian food.

Babur is in its 23rd year and has been in business that long because the restaurant has always offered good value for money. The restaurant has become known in its part of South London for its well-rounded portrayal of India’s cuisines, both traditional and contemporary.

The restaurant’s wine is relatively short with just 39 bins (plus four exceptionally good value bin ends at the moment) but is no less comprehensive for that with at least 30 varietals represented. This is not for the sake of making up numbers, but rather an attempt to provide suitable matches for the wide variety of flavours the kitchen produces.

The same focus on value for money applies to the wines, with a highest markup of no more than £13, following owner Emdad Rahman’s belief that he would rather make a bit less so that his guests can enjoy good wine at a price they can afford.
