Top Taste of London chefs Michel Roux Jr, Tom Aikens and Atul Kochhar, with the Chair of the London Food Board, Rosie Boycott planting seeds and seedlings in the St James’s Park Allotment today (Monday, 16 March 2009), to mark the launch of ‘Taste of London'

Taste of London is the capital’s most exciting restaurant, food and drink event in Regent’s Park (18- 22 June).

The Royal Parks’ allotment in St James’s Park is in its third year and the theme for 2009 is how to grow your own in small spaces.

Each chef will oversee the growth of their own vegetables from March until 18 June, when Taste of London opens. Taste of London is inviting all the chefs at the show to grow their own. The best veg will be judged by Rosie and Mayor Boris Johnson on 18 June and all the produce grown will be used to prepare the chefs’ signature dishes at the show.

The planting supports the London Development Agency’s Capital Growth campaign, spearheaded by Rosie Boycott.

Capital Growth aims to transform the capital by creating 2,012 new food-growing spaces by 2012.

Picnics For Lazy Summer Days March 11, 2009

Restaurant-quality food for alfresco dining.

Red Snapper Events is setting the pace for alfresco dining in London having announced the launch of its picnic range, taking the drama out of outdoor gatherings and romantic rendezvous.

The alfresco treats include fresh tiger prawns with lime, grilled breast of guinea fowl, Scottish lobster salad and pear frangipane tart. The picnic selection ranges from discreet to extravagant, thereby providing an option for every occasion and budget.

The picnics, designed for two to share, include everything needed to dine in the open air. Wine, water, cutlery, glasses, napkins and disposable plates all come beautifully displayed in a biodegradable cool box that can be used again.

A picnic revival encourages everyone to take advantage of outdoor spaces, from couples on a romantic date to larger groups of friends or colleagues celebrating or relaxing. Red Snapper Events takes that extra step and recommends five top London spots in which to enjoy your picnic:
- Primrose Hill – Look down over London and finish off the day with a play in Regents Park open-air theatre.
- Hampstead Heath – Escape central London and, if it rains, take a look around Kenwood House.
- Hyde Park – Find a secluded spot in the park or hire a rowing boat on the Serpentine.
- Little Venice – Sit by the canal and then take a boat trip to lively Camden lock.
- Postman’s Park – If you can’t make it out of the city, head to this central retreat and view the 34 Victorian plaques remembering everyday heroes.

A catered picnic removes the stress of preparing a meal, allowing participants to relax and enjoy the summer. Picnics are delivered to the door, with prices starting at £30.00 for two.

Red Snapper Events is best known for catering high-profile events such as Aston Martin, Innocent Drinks, World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards and Fashion Fringe.

Hector Ross, special projects director of Red Snapper Events, comments: “The picnic is the ultimate summer companion and a real chance to move dining and entertainment out into open spaces.” He adds: “Gone are the days of squashed jam sandwiches and bruised fruit picnics; we are offering services that will bring the picnic into the twenty-first century and give it a modern image.”
